Cellular Jail in Andaman
The union territory of India, Andaman and Nicobar islands are clusters at the joint of Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. The territory name is often abbreviate to A and N islands or ANI, located in the Indian Ocean. It consists of two groups of island- the Andaman Island and the Nicobar Island. These two groups of Island are separated by 10 degree N parallel, Andamans lying to the north and the Nicobars lying to the south, Port Blair, the capital of the territory in total covering the area approximately of 8,249sq km. The territory is divided into two districts for administrative purposes like Andaman district and Nicobar district. There are 572 islands in the territory, among these only 38 islands are permanently inhabited. In these Islands Indian languages are mostly spoken, where Hindi is the common language moreover English, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Punjabi and many more.  

Andaman Islands are blessed with unique natural components and made up by the heavy waves of the oceans. The climate of Andaman and Nicobar Island is described as torrid climate and 86% of this Island is covered by the green forest. The Island faces only summer and rainy seasons, there are no winter seasons. The main land is connected by the ship and air. All the visitors can make their journey through air or by ship. The tiny world of Andaman and Nicobar carries the tourist all the way from their home. The unexplored beaches, live volcano, gateways, wildlife, seaplane, fishing, riding and many more exciting activities which is truly loveable by the visitors.

Havelock Island is one of the largest islands in Ritchie’s Archipelago, situated in 57km northeast of capital city Port Blair. The island is named after the British general Henry Havelock. The current people on these islands consists a huge number of Bengali settlers. It is one of the places of Andaman and Nicobar Island, where the government of India has focused on promoting the eco tourism and in the case of development.  It is the major tourist destination with white sands, rich in marine life, dense evergreen forest belonging to Andaman district.

Barren Island is orient to the Andaman Island located at the Andaman Sea. The active volcano in South Asia lies about 135km northeast of the capital Port Blair. After the first volcano eruption in 1787, other eruption was recorded in 1789 1795 1803-04 and 1852. The most recent that occurred in the year 2010 till January 2011. This volcanic island is situated in the middle of volcano belt on the edge of Indian and Burmese tectonic plates. Narcondum is an inactive volcano in the area and the highest altitude on the island is 354 meters.

Andaman Cellular jail  is also called as Kala Pani constructed in the year 1906 by the British government. The Jail is located at Port Blair and it achieved the name cellular as it is made up of individual cells. The jail was specially made up for the political freedom fighters where they were imprisoned for life long. Some of the freedom fighters named as Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and many others too. The jail comprises of seven wings and the big watchtower, from where they used to watch all the gates. These days it has become the National Memorial where all the visitors can enjoy the evening light and sound show in Hindi as well as in English. It also gives an opportunity to watch all the photos and art gallery of the pre-independence India. The jail where the prisoners were badly tortured has now become the major tourist attraction at the Island. A visit to this place gives you a strong feeling for the freedom fighters.

The cellular jail or the Kala Pani addressed in the island of the Andaman was said to be the suitable place for punishing the rebels, and they were also chained together to construct the building. Hence, today it has been the major tourist attraction, and the evening shows also plays a vital role in attraction.
